In the national monument building "De Lorentz H.B.S", we offer a spacious STUDENT ROOM. The rooms have a large shared kitchen and ample sanitary facilities. The building still possesses many authentic details and the facade and interior are richly decorated with ornaments. Influences from Berlage, Rationalism, and Art Nouveau can be found in the design. Prominent figures such as the later Nobel Prize winner H.A. Lorentz and artist M.C. Escher have attended this school. For M.C. Escher, the central staircase even served as the inspiration for his most famous drawings. The building is located on Schoolstraat in the national protected cityscape of Spijkerkwartier. This neighborhood is characterized by the presence of many monumental buildings, including the “Brussels houses” located in the adjacent Spijkerstraat. The neighborhood borders the center of Arnhem.
